God Meets Our Need For Patience

1 Jn. 4:7 “God is love.”

1 Cor. 13:4 “… Love is patient, …”

Num. 14:18, KJV, “The Lord is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, …”

2 Tim. 3:10-11 “You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings — what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them.”

2 Pet. 3:9 “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”

We Need To Exercise God’s Patience

Gal. 5:22-23a “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Gal. 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

1 Tim. 4:7b NASB “… discipline yourselves for the purpose of godliness.”

Col 3:12 “Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

Col. 1:10-12 “… we pray this [that God ‘… fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding,’ v. 9] … in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.”

1 Tim 1:16 “… I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.”

Blessings from exercising God’s patience:

Eccl. 7:8b “… patience is better than pride.”

2 Pet. 3:15 “Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.”

Heb. 6:12 “We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”

Isa. 40:31, KJV, “… they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Jam. 1:4 “Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Ways We Are To Exercise God’s Patience

Eph. 4:1-2 “… I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

Prov. 15:1 “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Prov. 17:14 “Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.”

1 Thess. 5:15 “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.”

1 Tim. 6:11, KJV, “But thou, O man of God, … follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.”

Jam. 1:19-20 “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.”

2 Tim. 4:2 “Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction.”
